Emerging Leaders program concludes year on a high note

This year, the Emerging Leaders added an advisory board and continued to successfully offer engagement events and philanthropic activities.

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the Emerging Leaders were able to continue their journey of growth and transformation. Dr. Andrew Pueschel, program director, was proud of the accomplishments of all the students that were part of the Emerging Leaders sixth cohort (EL6).

“It is amazing to me how our leaders were able to pivot and find meaningful individual and team-based ways to grow and develop their strengths during this time of uncertainty,” said Pueschel. “The shared experiences that this specific group has bonded through will hopefully serve them well as they take what they have learned out into the organizations and communities in which they will serve.”

Scholarship established for leadership roles

Lacy Burke, the EL6 Lead Peer Mentor, was selected as the first recipient of the Todd and Teresa Calamita Leadership Scholarship based on her outstanding commitment to the organization, demonstration of leadership skills and dependability. Moving forward, this scholarship will be given to the Emerging Leaders program’s lead peer mentor each year. Read more about the scholarship.

Emerging Leaders program adds Advisory Board

The Emerging Leaders Advisory Board was created during spring semester to support the professional growth and leadership potential of Emerging Leaders students. The Advisory Board will assist members through the enhancement of curricular programming and activities, student internship and job placement, mentorship, and soft-skill development.

The board includes a diverse group of business leaders. Alumni Emerging Leaders members include Jared Elmore, Nicolette Lacich, Jeremy Crookston, Rachel Gardella, Hunter Murdock, Dan Foster, Alyssa McCoy, Sam Patterson and Gianna Mannarino. The Advisory Board also includes student members Amy Kokal, Marianna Soriano and Anna Rausch; faculty members Andrew Pueschel and Shawnee Meek; and emeritus member Tammy Reynolds.

During the first meeting on March 29, the Advisory Board discussed the status of the program, recruitment updates, nominations for board leadership positions, executive engagement opportunities, fundraising strategies and the outlook for 2021-22.

Emerging Leaders partner with alumnus Bill Lombardo to help shape future leaders

The Emerging Leaders had the opportunity to participate in the CASA Mindset for Empowering Leaders program to provide alumnus Bill Lombardo with feedback on ways to improve the program and to determine its potential use for students and recent graduates. Philanthropic effort yields big results

Emerging Leaders partnered with Select Leaders, OHIO Women in Business and the Strategic Leadership Certificate group to collect school supplies for Trimble Local School District. The effort yielded hundreds of supplies that will help kids in an underserved community.

Emerging Leaders also provided hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes that are in high demand for the schools because of cleaning protocols related to COVID-19. By collaborating on this initiative, Emerging Leaders and the other student organizations were able to have an even greater impact in the community.

Emerging Leaders announces incoming class

The newest class of Emerging Leaders, known as EL7 in reference to the program’s seventh year, were recently announced. Also, the EL7 Executive Board as well as the EL7 Peer Mentors were selected for the fall 2021 cohort. Congratulations to the incoming class!
