Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Deborah J. Shaffer announces retirement from Ohio University

Ohio University announced today that effective Aug. 20, 2021, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Deborah J. Shaffer will transition to a one-year term as Special Consultant to the Ohio University President. This follows Shaffer’s announcement that she will step down from her current role with plans to retire after the one-year transition.

“I am grateful to Deb for her vision, leadership, and numerous achievements over the past eight years as our Chief Financial Officer,” OHIO’s 22nd President Hugh Sherman said. “I am pleased that Deb has agreed to serve in this capacity to provide advisory support and guidance as we work to balance and stabilize our budget in the coming year and look forward to working with her in this new capacity.”

Shaffer, who joined Ohio University in 2013, currently serves as Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer of the Ohio University Board of Trustees.

In her new role, Shaffer will assist President Sherman with the effective and efficient transition of leadership.

“It has been a true privilege to be a part of such an exceptional team,” Shaffer said. “I look forward to working with President Sherman in the coming year as the University works to refine its financial strategy and remain committed to supporting this transition for the success of the University and the Finance and Administration Division.”

The University will announce transition plans for interim leadership for the Division of Finance and Administration in the coming weeks.
