The City of Athens is bustling with energy as hometown hero Joe Burrow prepares to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1988.

The City of Athens is bustling with energy as hometown hero Joe Burrow prepares to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1988. Locals have put up signs, painted the graffiti wall, created Burrow-themed food specials at restaurants, and much more.

The photos seen below are from around Athens and The Plains, Ohio, in the week leading up to the big game.

In late 2019 the Athens City School District announced its decision to rename the Athens High School stadium for the 2015 Athens High graduate, Heisman Trophy winner and Cincinnati Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. The lettering was installed in 2020.
