Athens supports Joe Burrow ahead of Super Bowl LVI
The City of Athens is bustling with energy as hometown hero Joe Burrow prepares to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1988.

The City of Athens is bustling with energy as hometown hero Joe Burrow prepares to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1988. Locals have put up signs, painted the graffiti wall, created Burrow-themed food specials at restaurants, and much more.
The photos seen below are from around Athens and The Plains, Ohio, in the week leading up to the big game.
In late 2019 the Athens City School District announced its decision to rename the Athens High School stadium for the 2015 Athens High graduate, Heisman Trophy winner and Cincinnati Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. The lettering was installed in 2020.

A cutout of Joe Burrow, bearing his signature, is on display at the Athens Community Center. "Joe used to come here and play basketball or work out in the fitness room," said Vanessa Scott, operations specialist of the Athens Community Center.
Flowers showcasing Joe Burrow's jersey number are on display on lamp posts along Court Street in Athens. The local community arts center Passion Works Studio used repurposed materials to make the decorum.
A mural at the Texas Roadhouse in Athens recognizing some of the famous people who have called Athens County home showcases an alteration that incorporates Joe Burrow into the cast of highlighted folks. Employees at the restaurant were not certain who modified the mural.
The Athens Messenger has sold several hundred Joe Burrow tee shirts, over the course of two days, since they were made available to the public.
