Frontiers in Science presents Jad Abumrad, co-founder and host of Radiolab

The Ohio University Frontiers in Science Lecture Series is proud to present Jad Abumrad on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Baker University Center Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public. 

Abumrad is the creator and host of “Radiolab,” a public radio program broadcast on nearly 600 stations across the nation and downloaded more than 12 million times a month as podcast. Abumrad employs his dual backgrounds as a composer and journalist to create what’s been called “a new aesthetic” in broadcast journalism. He has received many awards for his work, including a recent a Peabody Award for “Dolly Parton’s America,” a nine-part series that explores a divided America through the life and music of Dolly Parton. 

Abumrad’s talk is titled, “Island Hopping.” The talk will discuss how to craft an emotional story while translating very technical and abstract information. Drawing from raw tape of interviews with scientists, Abumrad will focus on the inherent struggles in science communication – what happens when you get it wrong, how to fix it, and how it’s useful to embrace error in the process.

OHIO’s Frontiers in Science lecture series was established in 1991 by a gift from Jeanette Grasselli Brown, an OHIO alumna and former University trustee, and her husband, Glenn R. Brown. The series features scientists who have been recognized for their commitment to share their scientific knowledge with individuals of all ages.
