OHIO approves five new university policies

Five new Ohio University policies have been approved by the Executive Staff Policy Committee (ESPC) and are now in effect. Each are revisions of past policies.

Approved at the Jan. 21 ESPC meeting, the policies are all posted on the University Policy website. They are:

03.004: Sexual Harassment and Other Sexual Misconduct – This is a new version of a policy that has been approved and revised numerous times since 1981. The policy states “To affirm its commitment to fairness and equity, and to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, Ohio University has developed this policy and related processes that inform members of the University community about prohibited behavior; provide supportive measures designed to remediate the effects of sexual harassment and other sexual misconduct; and provide a prompt, fair, and impartial process to address alleged violations of this policy.”

40.051: Compensation of Classified and Administrative Employees During Declared Emergency – This is a new version of a policy that has been approved and revised numerous times since 1978. The policy states, “This policy provides for declaring an emergency school closing and establishes guidelines for the compensation of classified and administrative employees during an emergency. This includes administrative hourly, administrative salary, and classified bargaining unit employees. Bargaining unit employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should refer to their current contract for specifics of participation. This policy does not apply to student employees of Ohio University.”

41.125: Holidays – This policy provides information on categories of employees who are eligible for holidays identified in the policy, while it also lists the dates when Ohio University will be closed in observance of holidays as approved by the Ohio University Board of Trustees. In addition, the policy provides information on what happens when a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, requirements for security and vital services staff on holidays, and details on several other issues. This is a new version of a policy that has been approved and revised numerous times since 1970.

44.102: Administrative Policy Regarding Epidemic, Pandemic and Community Health Requirements – The policy states, "This policy is intended to provide Ohio University with the ability to take appropriate community health measures to address threats caused by transmittable disease, epidemics, pandemics, and other threats to the health and safety of persons associated with Ohio University.” Prior versions of this policy were approved in 2020 and 2021.

40.063 Flexible Work Schedule, Flexible Hours, and Flexible Work Location for Administrators and Classified Employees – The policy states, “As a matter of work-life balance, Ohio University supports a progressive work culture that embraces diversity and provides, where appropriate, flexible work schedules, flexible hours, and flexible work location options for administrators and classified employees. Ohio University acknowledges that there are growing demands on staff recruitment and retention, as well as the growing demands on University space and energy requirements.” Prior versions of this policy were approved in 2012 and 2016.
