OHIO hosts Ohio Latin Americanist Conference Feb. 25-26 in Athens
The 18th annual Ohio Latin Americanist Conference (OLAC) will be held Feb. 25-26 at Ohio University in Athens.
Kevin Zamora delivers the keynote on "NUESTRO QUILOMBO: A Glimpse of the Chaotic World of Immigration Law” at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26. He is a founding partner of Zamora & Tisdale, a bilingual law firm in Columbus, Ohio.
All conference events are free and open to the public.
Conceived 17 years ago at Ohio State University as a gateway through which to promote the rich complexity of Latin America, the OLAC annually brings together a diverse group of specialists on the region.
As envisioned from the onset, the conference is hosted every three years by a different Ohio institution. This assures that all regions of the state have access to the wealth of topics discussed at every meeting. In recent years, Bowling Green, Case Western, Ohio State, and Wittenberg universities have kept alive the conference’s mission of gathering varied scholarly work pertaining to that continent. Dissemination of multiple findings by scholars, educators and students is at the core of the enterprise.
This year's hosts are the Modern Languages Department in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Latin American Studies program in the Center for International Studies at Ohio University, as well as the Center for Latin American Studies at Ohio State University.
