OHIO stands in solidarity with those affected by the tragic events in Ukraine

The following message was shared with the Ohio University community on Feb. 28, 2022.

Dear University Community:

We write today to share our deep concern about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The attack on Ukraine is an attack on democracy. As a university, part of our mission is to stand for democratic norms of free expression and free inquiry, and we stand with all individuals, countries and institutions across the world who embrace these democratic ideals. 

Our university is home to students, faculty, staff, and alumni from across the globe, including Ukraine and Russia. We stand in solidarity with those community members who are experiencing this conflict in deeply personal ways and who may have loved ones in harm’s way. 

In the coming days and weeks, we encourage our students, faculty, and staff to seek support through on-campus services, shared below, as we individually and collectively reconcile how to process these events and their impacts.  

International students and scholars can contact International Student and Faculty Services by emailing isfs@ohio.edu.

Students may contact Counseling and Psychological Services at 740-593-1616 to reach a counselor during an emergency or for immediate assistance. 

The Employee Assistance Program is available to all Ohio University employees and their family members in need of support.

The Office of Global Affairs and International Studies is available to support Ukrainian and Russian scholars and their families. And, as always, the University’s Dean of Students Office offers a wide array of resources and services for our students.
