Faculty and staff invited to join Out OHIO for social

On Tuesday, March 22, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. in the lobby in front of the new LGBT Center (Baker 348), University faculty and staff are invited to join the Out OHIO affinity group and Ohio University LGBT Center for a friendly Out OHIO Cookies and Coffee Social.

Out OHIO is an affinity organization for employees of Ohio University focused on welcoming and engaging LGBTQ+ faculty and staff through a variety of opportunities for social gatherings, professional networking, and inclusive community involvement.

“We want to celebrate community and give faculty and staff an opportunity to connect as we enter the new year,” said Nick Wortman, senior director of HR Services and founding member of Out OHIO.

Attendees are invited to partake in hot beverages and tasty refreshments, dropping-in as time allows.  LGBT Center Director and OUT OHIO member Micah McCarey will host tours of the new center space throughout the event.

“Our LGBT Center, which serves all constituent groups, embraces opportunities for social connection like this, especially given how infrequent such in-person opportunities have been during the pandemic,” McCarey said.

Attendees may come and go as they please any time between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.  Nametags will be on-hand or attendees may wear their own.

Cat Russell, HR liaison for strategic HR Programs and founding member of Out OHIO notes, “We know that affinity organizations are key to developing a sense of belonging and so I can't think of a better way to celebrate spring than with this great community – especially in this great new space!”

Out OHIO provides programming for LGBTQ+ faculty and staff and allies throughout the year. This event is open to all faculty and staff. For more about affinity organizations for faculty and staff, visit: https://www.ohio.edu/diversity/employee-affinity-organizations
