OHIO community asked to wear green on Friday and Saturday as part of OHIO Up Close admissions event
Ohio University will welcome nearly 2,000 visitors to the Athens Campus this weekend for an OHIO Up Close event, and the community is asked to help with the welcome effort.
OHIO Up Close is a series of special on-campus, open-house events for high school students who have been admitted to Ohio University for the 2022-2023 academic year. Saturday’s event promises to be the largest in recent history.
“We are thrilled to host so many admitted students and their family members for OHIO Up Close,” President Hugh Sherman said. “This event gives us an opportunity to showcase what makes the Ohio University community so special—dedicated, caring people delivering an unparalleled academic experience in a beautiful, historic setting.” Sherman said that every member of the community can play a role in welcoming the guests, whether through offering a simple greeting, providing directions, or sharing their OHIO own story with visitors they encounter.
All members of the Ohio University community are also encouraged to wear OHIO gear and green apparel on Friday and Saturday as part of the welcome effort.
Families who plan to arrive early for the event may attend a dessert reception with current students and staff on Friday evening. The main event on Saturday, March 19, is the fourth of seven OHIO Up Close events being held during the spring semester. During these events, admitted high school seniors and their families tour campus, talk with faculty and advisors, visit residence halls, hear from diverse panels of current students, receive information on scholarships and financial aid, and interact with a wide range of University representatives.
More than 200 Ohio University faculty, staff and students will be working in various official capacities throughout the weekend as part of the event.
Vice President For Enrollment Management Candace Boeninger said that the high level of interest in the OHIO Up Close program is very encouraging as the University looks toward the 2022-23 academic year.
“Building on the success we saw in fall 2021 enrollment, we have seen extraordinary interest in Ohio University for fall 2022, including a significant increase in applications from qualified students. In fact, at this point in the cycle, we’ve already surpassed the final application volume we saw in each of the past few years,” Boeninger said.
The Saturday event will help the admitted students learn more about Ohio University, including the outstanding academic programs, wide range of student activities and overall focus on student experience and success. For many families, attending OHIO Up Close is the final step in choosing to enroll at Ohio University, ahead of the May 1 confirmation deadline.
“I am grateful to all members of the University community who work to make OHIO Up Close and the entire college search process successful for our admitted students,” Boeninger said. “Ohio University offers an incomparable experience at an outstanding value, and it’s always a joy to see the entire community come together to help our newest Bobcat families see what awaits them here.”
