Kristin Schuller to step down as director of OHIO’s Department of Social and Public Health
Dr. Kristin Schuller, who has served as director of the College of Health Sciences and Professions’ (CHSP) Department of Social and Public Health (SPH) since the beginning of Fall Semester 2021, will step down from her role effective Aug. 21, 2022.
She will join Towson University as an associate professor of health care management later this year.
“Dr. Schuller has played an instrumental role in building our Master of Health Administration program, and she leaves a legacy of growth and stability in our community and public health degrees that will sustain and advance the work in the college for years to come. We will miss her leadership,” said Interim CHSP Dean Dr. John McCarthy. “Please join me in thanking Dr. Schuller and wishing her all the best in her next professional and life journey.”
Schuller, who has been well known across the college and by her colleagues for her relentless commitment to student support and service in health, said she is looking forward to her new role and further engaging with her research agenda in support of the Baltimore and surrounding communities.
“I am incredibly grateful to SPH and CHSP for offering me numerous opportunities and experiences that have helped shape my research, teaching and service in the community,” Schuller said. “OHIO’s students, alumni, faculty and staff will always hold a special place in my heart.”
As a researcher at OHIO, Schuller engaged in multiple interdisciplinary collaborations within CHSP and beyond; her work spanned areas of administration, patient provider relationships and access to care.
Schuller, a 2007 OHIO graduate in Health Services Administration, received her Ph.D. in Health Services Policy and Management from the University of South Carolina in 2012.
She returned to OHIO in 2015 as an assistant professor in SPH’s Health Services Administration program and was elevated to the role of associate professor in April 2020 before taking on the role of department director in August 2021.
In the coming weeks, Dean McCarthy plans to remain in communication with CHSP regarding short- and long-term transition plans for SPH leadership.
