OHIO launches faculty learning community about faculty mentoring

In Fall 2022, Ohio University will offer the Mentor Leaders Faculty Learning Community (FLC) to provide training and support for any full-time OHIO faculty interested in serving as a formal or informal faculty mentor to other faculty. 

The six-part workshop series is designed to provide OHIO faculty with the skills and knowledge to become more effective faculty mentors. Topics will include the value/benefits of mentoring, organizational culture, social identity, appreciative mentoring, and mentoring goals.

The Mentor Leaders FLC is open to any full-time OHIO faculty. The Mentor Leaders FLC will meet virtually twice per month during the fall semester on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 10:45 – 11:40 a.m.

At the end of the FLC, faculty participants will be invited to either sign-up to serve as a mentor for one (or more) existing mentorship programs or to propose a new faculty mentor program for the University, their college, and/or their department/school. Participants who successfully complete the FLC and sign-up to serve as a mentor or propose a new faculty mentor program will earn a small stipend.

The FLC will be led by Robinson and co-convened with Dr. Beth VanDerveer (associate professor of recreation, sport pedagogy and consumer sciences), Dr. Pete Mather (professor of counseling and higher education), and Dr. Dianne Gut-Zippert (professor of teacher education). The FLC is sponsored by the Office of the Provost.
