OHIO’s Fall Fairs provide students with job and internship opportunities

Following the success of the Accounting, Finance, and Business Career Fair on Sept. 7, Ohio University’s Center for Advising, Career and Experiential Learning will host four more fairs this fall to help provide students with job and internship opportunities. Bobcats will have the chance to connect and network with recruiters from across the country in various industries through in-person and virtual formats.   

The Accounting, Finance and Business Career Fair kicked off the fall career fair season on Wednesday, Sept. 7 with over 450 students and 86 recruiters in attendance. Students from all majors had the opportunity to network with employers looking to hire candidates for positions in finance, accounting, marketing, business analytics, business administration, and many other business support areas.  

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, Ohio University will host the biannual Career and Internship Fair from 1-4 p.m. at Ping Recreation Center. Toyota, Battelle and Rural Action are just a few of the 80 employers representing a diverse array of industries that will attend. Bobcats will get to connect with recruiters, explore industries, and practice networking skills while seeking internships or jobs. All majors are welcome.

“Students should attend career fairs to network with employers and get to know the individual recruiters,” Holly Seckinger, associate director of employer and industry engagement, said. “The fair is a great place to learn about different companies and the roles they have to offer, but it’s also a way to build relationships with the recruiters and make your name known. These connections set Bobcats apart when they apply for jobs and internships. When a recruiter is looking through a stack of resumes, your name might stand out because you made a great impression at a career fair!”

The Career Network offers services that empower jobseekers to prepare for the career fair with confidence. Students can schedule a career coaching appointment through Handshake or visit McGuffey Hall during drop-in hours Monday through Friday 1-4 p.m. to get their resume reviewed, practice their elevator pitch, and get networking tips. McGuffey Hall’s Career Closet also has an assortment of free business casual and professional clothing to help Bobcats look and feel their best.

Three more fairs will take place in October, including the Virtual Diversity First Career Fair on Oct. 12, the Virtual Grad School Fair on Oct. 26, and the Law Fair on Oct. 27. Registration is required to participate in virtual sessions, so attendees are encouraged to pre-register on Handshake and sign up early for sessions with employers.
