Spencer chosen as the OHIO Eastern AmeriCorps student resource center coordinator

Bronwyn Spencer was recently named AmeriCorps volunteer for the 2022-2023 academic year at Ohio University Eastern.

Spencer, an OHIO Eastern undergraduate student, will be volunteering this academic year as the AmeriCorps Student Resource Coordinator.  She is on pace to earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology this spring and plans to work as a pediatric physical therapist after completing graduate school at Ohio University.

“In support of the mission of Ohio Campus Compact, the AmeriCorps Ohio University Eastern Student Resource Center will be a place where college students can be connected to campus, community, and state or federal resources to alleviate barriers they face,” said David Rohall, Ohio University Eastern Dean of Campus and Community Relations. “Any barrier that may cause a student to not succeed academically, withdraw from a course or leave an institution without earning a college degree or credential should be addressed at the Student Resource Center.”

In her new role, Spencer will promote the Mission and Vision of Ohio Campus Compact that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and celebrates the positive aspects of a multicultural society. The Student Resource Coordinator will act as a knowledgeable intermediary between students and the resources available to them. She will be available to discuss issues, such as homelessness and food and resource insecurity.

“This year I plan to help Student Services start a career closet on campus. The Career Closet will be a place for students to access clothing for job interviews,” said Spencer. “I will also help manage the Cat’s Cupboard food pantry on campus and will be available for students who need assistance.”

The Student Resource Center is located in Student Services and will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

“The goal of the Ohio University Eastern student resource center is to support retention initiatives on campus,” said Rohall. “In this position Bronwyn will be available to help fellow students access all the resources our campus has to offer.”
