Jackson County Health Department and Ohio University continue CDC funded project
The Jackson County Health Department and Ohio University have entered into the second year of a three-year Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded project.
The Jackson County Health Department will continue to provide Community Health Worker Program services focusing on community education and resource information for those experiencing chronic illness, substance abuse, and who are older adults in the following 11 counties: Jackson, Gallia, Lawrence, Scioto, Pike, Ross, Vinton, Hocking, Perry, Athens and Meigs. In the first year of the project, 20 people received Community Health Worker training with 13 of those people being involved with the Jackson County Health Department and seven with United Health Care.
Among other grant activity outcomes, the Jackson County Health Department provided health information to approximately 3,500 people. Year two goals include training additional community health workers, providing community health information, promoting health literacy, promoting vaccinations, and working with individuals in the target populations to identify community resources.
