Bobcat Parents & Families,

Words are insufficient to describe our collective grief and anger at the news of yet another school shooting — one that, as of Monday evening, has taken the lives of three students and injured five more at Michigan State University. Our hearts break for the lives lost and all those whose lives are forever changed by this senseless act of violence.

While awful news of this school shooting naturally creates fear and anxiety, it is important to reassure your student that their safety is our top priority. At OHIO, we follow an emergency plan that was developed in coordination with OUPD to ensure the safety of our students in case of an event of this nature.

If your student needs support processing fears triggered by Monday’s event, please encourage them to reach out to the counseling department.

Exploring the realities of poverty in America

Years of barely scraping by with government assistance and a $9-an-hour job as a house cleaner led to author Stephanie Land's bestselling memoir, Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive. The book also inspired the Netflix series "Maid." Hear from Land and other panelists next Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. Registration is free for both in-person and virtual events.
