With a combined tenure of more than six decades, OHIO celebrates the careers of Nancy Love and Janet Howard

Ohio University bids a heartfelt farewell to two extraordinary employees, Administrative Specialists Nancy Love and Janet Howard, who have dedicated over 60 collective years to serving as foundational pillars on Ohio University's Housing and Residence Life (HRL) team. Their remarkable contributions have left a lasting mark on the University and the individuals they’ve encountered.

With a combined tenure of six decades, Love (22 years) and Howard (39 years) have been instrumental in shaping the HRL department at OHIO. They have shouldered the responsibility of overseeing a multi-million-dollar budget, ensuring that the resources allocated to the HRL department were utilized efficiently and effectively.

Their work has not only kept the department running smoothly but also allowed for the implementation of numerous programs and initiatives that have enhanced the overall student experience.

One of the most crucial aspects of their roles has been supporting students who are at risk for retention. Love and Howard’s caring approach has provided a safety net for struggling students, offering them guidance to persist through their academic journey.

Jneanne Hacker, executive director of Housing and Residence Life, expressed her deep admiration and gratitude for Love and Howard's exceptional service.

"With thoughtful intentions and priceless outcomes, Janet and Nancy have supported the HRL team in countless ways,” Hacker said. “Their dedication to student success and their unwavering commitment to the department's mission have been truly inspiring.”

Love and Howard have been more than just administrators; they have been mentors and confidants to the HRL team. Their demonstrated expertise and vast experience have served as invaluable resources for their colleagues. Through their leadership and mentorship, they have fostered a culture of collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement within the department, leaving a legacy that will shape future generations of HRL professionals.

Throughout her career, Howard has garnered essential lessons and insights that she believes are paramount for success in her field. She emphasized that continuous growth is key, urging professionals to learn all aspects of their job and to keep expanding their knowledge base and skills. Howard also stresses the importance of leading a balanced life and finding joy in one's personal and professional journey.

In line with her experiences, Love offered valuable advice for thriving in the field as well. She advises aspiring professionals to be active listeners, take thorough notes, and never shy away from asking questions to gain a deep understanding of their work. Love also emphasizes the importance of building connections with campus partners to foster collaboration and mutual support in achieving shared objectives.

“Although we are excited for Janet and Nancy to step into their next journey, the path they have paved will continue to provide HRL with direction and be full of positive and personal memories."

The OHIO community would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to Love and Howard for their selfless service, dedication and contributions. Their retirement marks the end of an era; however, their influence will continue to shape the lives of countless individuals who have had the privilege of knowing them.
