Reminder: Nationwide emergency alert test to occur Oct. 4 at approximately 2:20 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 4 at approximately 2:20 p.m., the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide emergency alert test that is aimed at ensuring the effectiveness of various national emergency alert systems.

Although this message is not an OHIO Alert, many students, faculty, staff and those across the University community may receive this national test message.

The test will employ the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system. You may receive alerts on your mobile devices.

During this time, WEA-compatible wireless phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA, should be capable of receiving the test message. The text will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

Through EAS, radios and televisions will also receive this test.

Additional information is available at fema.gov.
