Ohio University recognized as one of nation’s best midsize employers by Forbes

Ohio University has been named one of “America’s Best Midsize Employers” in 2024 by Forbes, ranking ninth among public universities that were included in the list.

Overall, OHIO placed 125th out of the 600 organizations across the country that comprised this year’s list.

“Our faculty and staff are the heart of everything we do, and we are proud to be highlighted among the best places to work in the nation,” said Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez. “I’m equally excited to continue the work to make OHIO a destination employer in higher education as we complete our Dynamic Strategy process, which includes a focus on continually improving our work culture.”

Forbes’ annual rankings, conducted in collaboration with market firm Statista, were based on a survey of more than 170,000 workers in the United States across various American companies. Those with employee counts ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 were categorized as midsize employers. The rankings considered numerous factors, including employee satisfaction, work culture and benefits offered.

“OHIO is honored to be recognized by Forbes as a top-tier higher education employer that is helping to set the standard for workplace satisfaction and employee engagement,” said Interim Vice President of Human Resources Mary Elizabeth Miles.

According to Forbes, survey feedback was provided by current employees, individuals who had been part of the University in the previous two years and those acquainted with the organization through connections like friends, family or industry peers. However, significant weight was allocated to assessments from current and former employees.

Additionally, Forbes tweaked its methodology this year through the incorporation of data from the past three years – an adjustment that aimed to enhance the identification of companies consistently receiving positive ratings over an extended period.
