Celebration of Life event for Joel Rudy set for May 18 in Athens

The Ohio University community is welcome to a Celebration of Life gathering for Joel Rudy on Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at the Ohio University Inn and Conference Center.

Rudy passed away on Dec. 23, 2023, having served as vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Ohio University for nearly 30 years.

Rudy joined Ohio University in 1976, beginning a legacy of dedication to student development and leadership. Affectionately known as “Dean Rudy” to generations of Bobcats, Rudy was devoted to student success, diversity, and inclusion, fostering a culture of empathy and unity. He remained active in the university and Athens communities long after he retired in the late 1990s.
