TEAMS-based supervisor development workshop; Impact Solutions workshops to be offered

TEAMS-based supervisor development workshop to be offered in June

Ohio University’s Professional Development Pathways program will continue its series of supervisory skills workshops this June with a TEAMs-based supervisor development workshop. The Foundations of Supervision workshop series is an interactive series of six workshops focusing on fundamental knowledge and skills that form the foundation for effective supervision.

A TEAMS-based version of the first workshop in the Foundations of Supervision series, Transition to Supervision, will be available online on Thursday, June 20, from 2-4:30 p.m. This workshop will explore a variety of topics that are particularly relevant for new or aspiring supervisors such as developing new skills, challenging and managing perceptions, navigating the legal landscape, locating resources and assistance, and discussing the numerous challenges often faced by supervisors. This workshop will be facilitated virtually and will include dialogical lectures, active learning in a virtual environment, use of a PowerPoint slide deck and regular interaction with the facilitator and fellow participants. 

Employees with accessibility-related concerns, should reach out to Michael Greene or the Office of University Accessibility at least seven days prior to the session.

Workshops are scheduled for two and a half hours. Participation is open to all full-time and part-time regular staff and faculty. Registration is required with a deadline of Monday, June 17 for the June 20 session. There are no prerequisites, and participants are not required to attend every workshop in the series.

Participants are asked to discuss the workshop with their supervisor and get approval prior to registering. New supervisors, or those aspiring to a supervisory role, are highly encouraged to attend.

Employee Assistant Program Impact Solutions to offer lunch and learn series

Ohio University’s Employee Assistance Program, Impact Solutions, is hosting a series of Lunch and Learns throughout the Summer and Fall Semesters. These workshops focus on ways to help employees improve mental health, diversity and inclusion, food and wellness, and more.

No registration or sign up necessary – to access these workshops and add them to your Outlook Calendars, please select the titles of the workshops you would like to attend. Each workshop runs from noon to 1 p.m.

July 10 – Developing Critical Thinking Skills (WILL BE RESCHEDULED)
This session will define the elements of critical thinking and validate the need to think critically in many environments. We will also talk about key skills necessary to think well, and how to develop and practice critical thinking skills.

Aug 7 – Effective Communication and Teamwork
This session will focus on helping participants improve their interpersonal communication skills and develop stronger strategies for collaboration and communication.

Sep 4 – Diversity and Inclusion, The Art of Meeting Others Where They Are
Diversity is an everchanging concept and our world continues to become more and more diverse. In this session, we will explore ways in which we are different, talk about how we can be more understanding and empathic, find ways to bridge differences, and explore new ways to respect and engage people that we see as different than ourselves.

Oct 25 – Healthy Eating at Lunch/Meal Prep
Mid-day is when we need energy and nutrients the most. When employees pack their lunch, they can increase energy, lose weight, and decrease stress. Registered Dietitians will teach employees how to create fueling lunches for a satisfying work week

Nov 6 – Balancing Work and Care-giving: Effectively Managing the Sandwich
This workshop will assist healthcare professionals understand roles and issues of care-giving to help facilitate better communication with patients and their families. Stress management strategies will be presented for balancing work, care-giving and other life responsibilities. You will be introduced to options and resources in the community and the workplace, to help effectively manage care-giving roles.

Dec 4 – Shedding Light on Depression, Anxiety, and Recovery
We all have moments when we feel down or nervous. Often, these feelings are fleeting and pass within a short time. However, this is not always the case. This webinar focuses on raising awareness about stress, anxiety and depression, demystifying the symptoms and treatment options. We will provide information for you or a loved one on how to get help.
