OHIO's nursing school recognized as #1 in the state among public schools
Ohio University’s Nursing Program has been recognized for its excellence, earning the #1 spot for public universities in Ohio by nursing.org, ranking #3 among both public and private. This recognition highlights the OHIO’s dedication to providing high-quality education and support to nursing students, ensuring they are well-prepared for their careers.
“Being recognized again as a top-tier institution in the state for nursing is a fantastic achievement for our program,” said Dr. John McCarthy, Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Professions. “It highlights the hard work of our faculty and the outstanding education we provide.”
Dr. McCarthy emphasized the overall objective of the program, stating, “Beyond validation, our mission remains focused to develop critically thinking, practice-ready nurses who serve our community, the state, and the field. We are confident that our graduates are competitive and ready to make a positive impact.”
Personalized attention and faculty support
One of the standout features highlighted by nursing.org is OHIO’s impressive 17:1 student-to-faculty ratio. This ideal ratio ensures that students receive personalized attention and support, akin to the experience at a small, private college. Such individualized attention is essential for students aiming to earn their nursing degree and excel in their field.
Clinical placement in the communities we serve
Located in the scenic Appalachian foothills of Southeast Ohio, the university collaborates closely with students to secure clinical placements close to its main campus and throughout the state.
"As the demand for nurses and high-quality healthcare continues to grow, we have partnerships throughout Ohio," said Dr. JM. "In Athens, we cannot accommodate all students but do have some rotations with Ohio Health O’Bleness. There are also new facilities opening in the area this year, including a new Emergency Department in Athens."
Regional campuses for enhanced accessibility
Ohio University also offers traditional on-campus BSN programs at its regional locations in Chillicothe, Eastern, Lancaster, Southern, and Zanesville. These regional sites offer access to extensive nursing education and hands-on clinical experience for students residing in more remote areas. This demonstrates OHIO's commitment to preparing nursing students for successful careers in healthcare across the region.
Accolades and recognitions for Ohio’s nursing program
Ohio University’s School of Nursing, recognized as one of the largest health sciences colleges in the country by the Chronicle of Higher Education, has garnered significant accolades, reinforcing its reputation for excellence. The school has been selected by Niche as the best nursing school in Ohio and has been named one of the best nursing BSN degree programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Such recognitions are a testament to the high standards of education and training provided.
The program's success is further highlighted by the outstanding pass rates of its Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS-N) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs on the 2023 National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). These results demonstrate the program's commitment to providing rigorous academic preparation and a robust support system for its students.
