OHIO instructors encouraged to plan ahead for fall semester with Canvas workshops

Ohio University will be hosting several workshops and office hour sessions beginning in mid-August to support instructor transitions to Canvas, OHIO’s new preferred learning management system. Participants can use the training opportunities to set up their fall 2024 courses, which are now available in Canvas.

Representatives from Canvas will be leading various workshops on the Athens, Chillicothe, Southern, and Zanesville campuses Aug. 12-22, 2024. Participants can attend remotely or onsite, and sessions will be recorded for later access on the Canvas self-guided training webpage.

Workshops topics were selected based on faculty feedback and educational interests. Workshops are linked below, grouped by topic. Some topics are available at several dates and times to accommodate faculty availability, but the curriculum will remain the same. To view full session details or to register for the workshops, visit the links below. (GivePulse links require OHIO ID and password to register.)

Additionally, Canvas will be hosting virtual office hours at select times beginning Aug. 20. Instructors can leverage an expert Canvas consultant to answer their questions and work on their course in real-time. To learn more or add these to your calendar, visit the CTLA’s event registration webpage and search “Canvas."

Looking ahead, student enrollments will load to Canvas two weeks prior to your course start date. As we near the fall semester, please only publish your course in one learning management system. Publishing the same course in both systems (Canvas and Blackboard) will generate confusing messages to students. To help students find your course, consider sending them an email with course information.

To explore other training options or to get started with Canvas on your own, visit the Canvas Faculty Hub.
