Cybersecurity Awareness Month begins Oct. 1

This October, all members are of the OHIO community are invited to celebrate the 21st annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Ohio University has teamed up with the National Cybersecurity Alliance to become a Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champion. The Information Security Office has activities planned throughout the month and hopes that you will join in the OHIO community celebrates good cybersecurity practices.

Activities for the month of October

The second annual CyberMania competition against Miami University. Help us prove that Bobcats are cyber smart by completing a short five question survey about cybersecurity.

  • All participants will be entered to win a prize from the Information Security office. The competition kicks off on Sept. 27, and concludes on Nov. 1. You can visit the CyberMania Scoreboard to check in on the score throughout the competition.

The Information Security Office will host the third annual Data Security Day Conference on Oct. 9. 

  • This free conference is open to faculty, staff, and community members who want to learn more about cybersecurity. Participants can attend in person or virtually. Be sure to register online by Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, to reserve your spot.   

Each week throughout the month, OHIO will explore different cybersecurity related themes through a series of newsletter articles. The themes will include:

  • MFA fatigue attacks and recognizing fake login screens
  • Social engineering
  • Recognizing and reporting phishing 
  • Updating software and devices

The month will conclude with a cybersecurity themed movie and trivia night in the Baker University Center Theater featuring the movie, “The Great Hack,” on Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.

All OHIO students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month, as we each play an important role in keeping our University’s digital community safe.
