Learn about Archives and Special Collections at Discovery Space event on Sept. 11

Ohio University Libraries is welcoming back the OHIO community for the semester at the Mahn Center Discovery Space.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, all students, faculty and staff are invited to stop by to see how the space is evolving, learn more about Mahn Center collections, and view some recent acquisitions. The event will take place from 4-6 p.m. in the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections on Alden Library’s fifth floor.

Newly acquired materials from University Archives, Manuscript Collections, Rare Books and the Documentary Photography Archive will be highlighted and are available for research, instruction and general interest. The new exhibit from the Collection of Presidential Campaign Artifacts, the Cornelius Ryan permanent exhibit and the “Meet Our Collections” display about the Mahn Center collections will also be showcased.

In addition, Mahn Center and Digital Initiatives interns and student employees will be present to share the expertise they’ve developed working with various collections, ranging from documentary photography to the OHIO Pride Center Collection and Persian manuscripts. There will also be an opportunity to get creative with coloring pages, button making, Legos and more.

Miriam Intrator, interim head of the Mahn Center and Digital Initiatives and special collections librarian, wrote in an email that the event is a way for others to get familiar with the Archives and Special Collections as the new school year begins.

“This event is a casual and social opportunity for people to get together, learn more about our collections and our space, about the amazing work our students do and about the wide range of instructional, research and exploratory possibilities contained within archives and special collections,” Intrator wrote.

Light refreshments will be served, and the event includes hands-on creative fun for all ages. Come check out all that’s on display and explore what the Mahn Center’s Archives and Special Collections has to offer.

“We hope that both people who are familiar with [the Mahn Center] and who are brand new to us will come and will bring a colleague or friend,” Intrator wrote.
