Join Ohio University Zanesville to celebrate International Education Week.
OHIO Zanesville is joining the main campus in celebrating International Education Week, an initiative to champion the University’s excellence in global education through research, teaching and experiential learning. In partnership with the Office of Global Affairs, the Zanesville events will reflect Ohio University’s dedication to fostering a globally aware and culturally connected community. This week-long celebration brings a mix of events open to the community, showcasing diverse perspectives and opportunities for cultural engagement.

Event Highlights:
Travel the World: Storytime with the Zanesville Campus Library
Dates: Monday, Nov. 18, and Wednesday, Nov. 20
Time: 10:30 - 11 a.m.
Location: Herrold Hall, Zanesville Campus Library
Celebrate International Education week by learning about the world through stories. We will read stories, sing songs and enjoy an activity together. This Storytime is perfect for families. This event is best for kids ages 2-7, but all are welcome to participate.
Costa Rica: A Social Worker’s Perspective
Date: Monday, Nov. 18
Time: 2:30 - 3 p.m.
Location: Elson Hall, Room W110
Take a unique look into Costa Rica from a social worker’s perspective. Join Dr. Leah Vensil as she discusses the history of the health care system, current trends in Costa Rican healthcare, and social service agencies.
International Games
Date: Tuesday, Nov. 19
Time: 12:45 - 3 p.m.
Location: Elson Hall, Atrium
The sophomore students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program have researched international children’s games and will provide seven different options to play with event participants.
Thankful Bodies Workshop
Date: Wednesday, Nov. 20
Time: 2:30 - 4 p.m.
Location: Herrold Hall, Zanesville Campus Library
This interactive workshop aims to explore the concept of gratitude through movement and dance. Participants are encouraged to express their appreciation and gratitude for their bodies, emphasizing self-acceptance and relaxation. It provides a safe and inclusive environment where all can explore creative ways of moving and connecting with their bodies.
The workshop will be led by the MA Community Dance Program graduate students, who will guide the participants through exercises and improvisational techniques. The workshop will be in four parts, leading the participant from one level to another. Participants will have the opportunity to freely express themselves through movement, using their bodies as a tool for self-expression and communication. Participants will have the opportunity to experience some Caribbean and Ghanaian dances.
The Value of Studying Abroad: Reflections on Lessons Learned in Belize
Date: Thursday, Nov. 21
Time: 1:15 - 2 p.m.
Location: Herrold Hall, Education Resource Center
This session will provide an overview of an Ohio University study abroad trip to Belize in June 2024. Come learn about a study abroad experience in which student teachers engaged with a rural school in Belize. Hear firsthand how such experiential learning opportunities build stronger educators. Participants in this session will learn about the experience from faculty and a student. They will gain insight into why study abroad opportunities are the epitome of experiential learning and how such experiences aid in developing strong educators. An opportunity for Q&A and discussion will be included.
