WellWorks announces upgrades to memberships

Ohio University’s wellness center, WellWorks, has announced that it will reformat its membership options to better support a variety of well-being goals.

“We know that our most successful members use all of our wellness services; not just our fitness center,” explained Jenn Bennett, executive director of WellWorks and Healthy OHIO.

Bennett explained that, when faced with rising costs and a need to adjust membership pricing, the WellWorks staff used it as an opportunity to creatively present members with wellness packages that included the various wellness services that can make an individual successful in their goals.

“Part of what we do is make sure we’re offering quality services, but those services also need to be affordable, which is the balance that we continue to strike for employees,” continued Bennett.

“We already offer our employee members unlimited group fitness classes, the 100 Day Challenge and virtual check-in options,” Bennett said. “So, we asked ourselves, ‘How do we level up while also not putting the burden of cost back on our members?’”

This question is how Bennett approached creating the new WellWorks wellness packages.  

“Our aim is to help members find their balance by acknowledging what they’re good at but also sprinkling in additional support services so they can find success where they want it,” said Bennett.

The new wellness package structure presents a variety of membership packages. Each package will feature a fitness center membership at its core and then various support services to augment it.

Beginning Jan. 2, 2025, WellWorks members will have the following membership packages to choose from: 

• Basic Membership: $20/month ($240/year)
  • 12-month membership (includes access to fitness center and unlimited group fitness classes), one 30-minute nutrition consultation, discounts on specialty classes.
• Bobcat Membership: $50/month ($600/year)
  • 12-month membership (includes access to fitness center and unlimited group fitness classes), four 30-minute personal training sessions, quarterly reiki or massage sessions, two fitness assessments, free monthly workshops, daily shower towel. one 30-minute massage, one 30-minute nutrition consultation, locker rental and daily shower towel. $850+ value.
• Black Diamond Membership: $190/month ($2,280/year)
  • 12-month membership (includes access to fitness center and unlimited group fitness classes), weekly 30-minute personal training sessions, monthly reiki or massage, quarterly nutrition consultation, quarterly fitness assessments, locker rentals, free specialty classes and workshops. $2,800+ value. 
• Successful Starter Plan: $70/month ($280/4 months)    
  • 4-month membership (includes access to fitness center and unlimited group fitness classes), 1 fitness assessment, five 30-minute personal training sessions, one 30-minute massage, one 30-minue nutrition consultation, locker rental and daily shower towel. $375 value.

“The Basic Plan most closely resembles our existing membership model, and the Bobcat and Black Diamond memberships have been built for those members who are either already avid users of our offerings or those looking for the consistency and accountability they need and desire,” explained Jacob Hittle, fitness center coordinator.

“Of course, our services such as personal training, massage and nutrition can still all be purchased a la carte, but these packages allow people to set up their plan for the year and not have to worry about continually making new purchases,” Hittle said.

WellWorks offers a monthly direct debit payment option for all annual wellness packages. Those wishing to enroll in direct debit merely need to bring banking information into the WellWorks facility (Grover Center E124, Athens) to establish their direct debit membership.

These packages will be available to new or renewing members. There will be no change to any existing memberships* until said memberships reach their expiration dates.
