Ohio University Southern and Scioto County Aspire launch PRISM Program to strengthen workforce skills

Ohio University Southern and Scioto County Aspire are expanding their commitment to workforce development with the launch of PRISM: Professional Retail and Inventory Skills Management, a free training initiative designed to prepare individuals for in-demand careers in retail, customer service and logistics.
The eight-week blended learning program, which runs from April 22 to June 10, 2025, combines online coursework with weekly in-person sessions at Ohio University Southern. Participants will develop essential academic and workplace skills while earning three industry-recognized credentials from the National Retail Federation. The program includes training in customer service and sales, covering best practices in customer interactions, sales techniques and service excellence. Participants will also gain an understanding of inventory control, supply chain processes and warehouse operations. The program further provides problem-solving and communication strategies for handling difficult customer interactions.
“PRISM provides individuals with tangible skills and certifications that lead directly to employment opportunities,” said Dr. Debbie Marinski, dean of campus and community relations at Ohio University Southern. “This program supports our region’s workforce needs while helping participants build confidence and career readiness.”
PRISM is open to adults 18 and older who are seeking entry-level positions in retail, customer service or inventory management. It is also a valuable opportunity for displaced workers, career changers and English language learners who need additional support. The program will begin with an orientation on April 15, 2025, and classes will meet in person on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It is offered in a blended format, combining online coursework with face-to-face instruction. The program is free through Scioto County Aspire, and training, materials and certification fees are covered. Only 10 spots are available.
PRISM is designed to meet Ohio’s growing demand for skilled workers in retail, supply chain and logistics. Participants will gain hands-on experience with real-world applications, receive resume assistance and interview coaching, and have access to job placement guidance. The program is part of a broader effort to strengthen the local workforce and create employment pathways. Businesses, community organizations and educational institutions are invited to partner in supporting program graduates.
