New esports, gaming Experiential Living Opportunity available at OHIO

Students interested in game design, competitive online gaming and esports now have a new Experiential Living Opportunity available to them in Ohio University’s Boyd Hall.

A new designated living space was recently completed in the residence hall to add to the list of many Experiential Living Opportunities available to residential students on OHIO’s Athens campus.

Experiential Living Opportunities are unique residential environments that foster growth and development through targeted programmatic and staff supported efforts. These spaces provide opportunities for students to connect with each other based on shared interests and are a great option for first-generation students, those new to campus, those new to shared living spaces, or those just wanting to connect with other Bobcats.

The RGB living opportunity (Residential Gaming at Boyd) is located on the second floor of Boyd Hall on West Green and is open to first- and second-year students.

Residents will also have access to spaces like The Den, West Nest and the second-floor study lounge. In the RGB living opportunity, competitive players will be participating in games like Valorant and Overwatch live alongside non-competitive gamers who wish to immerse themselves in the gaming lifestyle.

Whether you're focused on mastering your competitive skills or simply want to live and learn with others who share your passion, this community offers a space for every kind of gamer. This space was created through a partnership with the OHIO Esports program and the Virtual Reality and Game Development major.

The space was named through that collaboration by many of the students who frequent the virtual reality lab. The acronym represents both the location of the living space and serves as a nod to the RGB lights that gamers often put behind their monitors or decorate their gaming stations with.

Other Experiential Living Opportunities include First Gen, Honors and Scholars, New Adventures, Substance Free, and more. Residential Learning Communities are also an option for a unique living experience. Incoming students who are interested in these opportunities need to update their preferences in their Personal Information by May 5.

Students can find more information about eligibility, each experience and more on the Housing and Residence Life website

For students who want to get involved beyond the Experiential Living Opportunity, Bobcat Esports is an Ohio University student organization open to students across campuses and online. From community nights and events to hands on experience in the industry, Bobcat Esports is a great space to learn more about the industry and connect with other players, regardless of a student’s major. Upcoming events can be found on the BobcatConnect page (opens in a new window)
