Business Systems Portfolio

About

This portfolio is responsible for managing and maintaining digital systems that meet the administrative needs of faculty and staff, including human capital management systems, financial systems, departmental systems, digital workflow systems, enterprise service management, and administrative reporting and data analytics.

Vision

The Business Systems portfolio streamlines administrative processes to gain efficiency, control costs, improve employee experience, and support the university’s strategic objectives.

Portfolio Priorities

A Portfolio Priority is not the only work happening in this Portfolio, but it is the highest priority. If we do not make progress on this priority, the Portfolio will not be successful. The Business Systems Portfolio currently has two priorities:

Portfolio Priority: Business Systems

Complete a comprehensive assessment of our ERP ecosystem. Results will include a roadmap for modernizing our ERP ecosystem, forecasts of resources and costs, and readiness.

Establish a foundation for data & information strategy. Results will include an agreed upon data management strategy, a data governance framework and working practice, a data literacy campaign, and a roadmap for technical architecture and capabilities.

Roadmap

The Business Systems roadmap lays out where we currently are and where we expect to be in the coming months and years. This roadmap will be updated regularly to reflect changing industry standards and changing needs within the University, but the overall trajectory should be predictable from semester to semester.

The Business Systems roadmap is coming soon!

Current Initiatives

July 2024 - December 2024
ERP Assessment

The ERP Assessment (2024) is the first phase of a multi-phase approach to evaluating, selecting, and eventually implementing a new digital ecosystem to support core university functions and modernize how Ohio University works to support the student, employee, and community experience.

March 2024 - October 2025
Data Strategy Initiative

This initiative will establish a data governance framework and operating model for the institution, along with a roadmap and implementation plan to promote a culture of data driven decision making.

January 2023 - May 2025
ERA Implementation

The university selected Cayuse as the new Electronic Research Administration platform, to replace the aging custom application that currently meets this need (LEO). This new system will improve researchers’ experience, gain efficiency, and improve compliance.

Notable Accomplishments

  • My Bobcat Business

In collaboration with the Business Service Center developed and launched a ticketing system and workflows to facilitate centralized management of common purchasing processes (purchase, travel, reimbursement, etc.). This brought the university significant operational efficiencies and provided an improved experience for faculty and staff.

  • Payroll Tax Payment Automation

Partnered with UHR and Finance to implement ADP Payroll taxes, significantly reducing the administrative and compliance burden imposed by a now nationwide workforce.

  • OHIO Bobcat Insights

Improved usability and added capabilities through an upgrade to our reporting platform (formerly branded OBI, Oracle Business Intelligence).
