Wired network upgrades completed ahead of schedule

The Network Upgrade Project reached a major milestone by finishing the final installation and implementation of the upgraded wired network. The final switch was installed on December 8, 2020, bringing the total upgrades to approximately 500 switches and 250 Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) in about 370 IT closets in 132 buildings across the Athens and regional campuses. These upgrades have tangible benefits for users across all campuses including increased internet speeds and coverage density. 

This work was completed ahead of the planned January 2021 target completion date with limited unplanned service disruptions. The success of this project can be attributed to the Network Distribution team and they are appreciated for their outstanding effort in completing this portion of the project.
