Programmatic Accreditation
In addition to institutional accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), individual academic programs at Ohio University may be accredited by specialized accrediting bodies or recognized by professional associations. Academic programs seek specialized accreditation or recognition to ensure:
- standards of the profession are being met
- program quality
- students are eligible for licensure and certification upon graduation
Many academic programs are in fields that do not have specialized accrediting bodies, and therefore, do not have the opportunity to seek specialized or programmatic accreditation. Programs with specialized accreditation or recognition with a professional association have been determined to meet the professional standards of their field through rigorous self-study and evaluation by the accrediting body or professional association.
