Candice Thomas-Maddox, Ed.D.

Dr. Candice Thomas-Maddox (Ed.D., West Virginia University) is a Professor of Communication Studies at Ohio University Lancaster, where she is passionate about helping students explore interpersonal, family, and organizational communication. She’s the co-author of four textbooks: Interpersonal Communication: Building Rewarding Relationships; Quantitative Research Methods for Communication: A Hands-on Approach; Communicating in Your Personal, Professional, and Public Lives; and Family Communication: Relationship Foundations.
A dedicated educator, Candice has been honored with the Eastern Communication Association’s (ECA) Ecroyd Teaching Award and Teaching Fellows designation, as well as the Ohio Communication Association’s (OCA) Ohio Outstanding Scholar Award. She has served as President and Executive Director for both ECA and OCA, held leadership roles with the National Communication Association (NCA), and currently chairs NCA’s Finance Committee. At OHIO Lancaster, she enjoys mentoring students and advising organizations like Phi Theta Kappa Honorary and Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity.
Always seeking innovative ways to enhance student learning and career preparation, Candice incorporates Team-Based Learning (TBL) in her courses to strengthen collaboration skills and engages students in community-based learning projects that provide real-world applications of course content.
When she’s not teaching or writing, Candice loves curling up with a good book, traveling to sunny destinations, or cheering on the OHIO Bobcats, West Virginia Mountaineers, and the Columbus Crew.
