Courses & Curriculum

The Communication Studies minor provides a strong foundation in both communication theory and applied skills, equipping students to be effective communicators across career paths. Courses will broaden students’ written and oral communication abilities, focusing on how and why messages are created and the effect of those messages.

The program begins with a public speaking course, followed by a selection of core courses that explore communication across different contexts. Students then tailor their experience by choosing from a variety of electives, with at least two at the advanced (3000 or 4000) level, covering topics from our four areas of emphasis: organizational communication, health communication, interpersonal and intercultural communication, and communication and public advocacy.
