Ohio University Southern Community Mental Health Awareness Conference

Dr. Austin Raines is an Appalachian native and first-generation college graduate from Scioto County who has served Shawnee State University for more than a decade. He also teaches as adjunct faculty at Shawnee State, instructs part time in the University of Kentucky College of Social Work MSW program and serves as a navigator for Scioto County Aspire. He earned both his Master of Social Work and Doctor of Social Work at the University of Kentucky, with concentrations in social work education and community and social development. He is a licensed independent social worker with supervision designation and a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. In his presentation, "What Drives You? Understanding Personality, Workplace Stress and Burnout," Raines uses personality preferences and workplace examples to help participants name what fuels their work, what drains it and how to catch burnout before it takes hold.

Hannah Diehl is a social worker with more than a decade in the behavioral health field, supporting service lines across southern Ohio. She has worked as a community behavioral health worker, licensed social worker, county supervisor and program manager, giving her a view of the work that runs from direct care through organizational leadership. Her focus is integrated care, program development and expanding access to services in rural communities, particularly through approaches that lower barriers and shorten the wait for care. She has also trained professionals in adoption-competent practice for the Center for Adoption Support and Education. In "Social Media and Youth Mental Health," Diehl and Michael Hickman examine how platforms shape self-esteem, sleep and anxiety in young people, and what the adults around them can do about it.

Michael Hickman leads program operations, quality improvement and community partnerships across Pickaway County. He has held a series of leadership roles within Integrated Services for Behavioral Health, including substance use disorder and intensive outpatient program manager, supervisor and lead counselor, and has helped expand behavioral health and substance use services throughout the region. He earned his Master of Social Work summa cum laude from Indiana Wesleyan University and holds licensure as a licensed social worker and licensed independent chemical dependency counselor. He trains regularly on behavioral health, substance use disorders and program development. In "Social Media and Youth Mental Health," Hickman and Hannah Diehl walk through the warning signs that a young person's screen habits have turned harmful and offer conversation strategies adults can use without shutting the door.

Jennifer Lloyd coordinates Ohio's work on substance use and mental health through RecoveryOhio, an initiative in Gov. Mike DeWine's office spanning prevention, treatment, recovery services and law enforcement partnership. She previously served as director of statewide substance use and outreach initiatives at the Ohio Attorney General's Office, leading naloxone distribution, public awareness and community engagement efforts, and later worked directly with behavioral health providers as a territory business manager for Alkermes. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Stockton University and a master's in psychology from the University of Phoenix. In her presentation, Lloyd introduces RecoveryRachel, a statewide tool that connects individuals, families and providers with licensed treatment across Ohio, and explains how the system was built to keep its listings accurate as the landscape changes.
