During the 2018-19 academic year, more than 50 new student organizations were formed. The Campus Involvement Center (CIC) provided more than 1,900 student organization walk-in consultations and engaged a community of more than 10,000 Bobcats through student organizations.
The CIC expanded the number of programs offered on a weekly basis to a total of 112 for the academic year. Programs included many trade-based and creative programs that serve students who are searching for a constructive way to express themselves.
The CIC continued to grow the support services and resources it provides to Ohio University student organizations. Recently, they created a handbook and treasurer’s manual to provide information and policies that can help students execute successful student organizational practices. At the close of spring semester, the CIC migrated to a new student organization management system, Bobcat Connect.
At the close of spring semester, 2,247 students were affiliated with Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) through the 33 recognized social organizations. Members of the SFL community completed 22,337 service hours, donated $144,546 to various philanthropic causes and facilitated community donations totaling $1,700 and two tons of food. Nearly 32% of Greek affiliated students were on the Dean’s List.
The Performing Arts & Concert Series programs, outreach and sponsored events showed a 28% increase in public performances, a 36% increase in outreach activities provided to K-12 area schools and an 11% increase in total attendees (39, 907) compared to the 2017-18 school year.
The CIC hosted several community engagement initiatives throughout the year including Fall Athens Beautification Day, MLK Day of Service, Appalachian Service Immersion Trip, neighborhood clean-ups and weekly service projects. These projects engaged over 1,000 students.
Health Promotion educational programs were expanded, including the StressLess for Student Success website and a recovery ally training program. Health educator groups POWER/GAMMA and Better Bystanders delivered 927 health and wellness educational programs to 13,816 students.
During fall semester, diagnostic inventories on alcohol and sexual assault prevention were completed through Everfi’s external review process. Ohio University was selected to receive the 2019 Impact Award for alcohol prevention efforts.
