Campus Recreation developed a department-wide new employee orientation program, providing consistent training to 202 new student employees on topics including customer experience, mandated reporting, division structure and strategic plan and Campus Recreation’s role in the overall mission and vision of Ohio University. Additionally, Social Justice and SafeZone trainings were integrated as development opportunities for student employees in Intramural & Club Sports and Outdoor Pursuits programs.

In partnership with the Patton College of Education, Outdoor Pursuits hosted New Adventures, a credit-bearing, outdoor adventure orientation program for first-year students aimed at developing leadership skills, forming friendships and acclimating to campus life. Twenty-seven students participated, with 93% stating they felt more confident about starting college after completing the trip.

The Charles J. Ping Recreation Center hosted 6,523.2 hours of reservations supporting Ohio University student organizations, student athletes, academic classes and university departments. Notably, 1,358.9 (20.8%) of those hours supported academic courses.

The Charles J. Ping Recreation Center tracked 427,854 visits during the 2018-2019 school year from 15,547 unique OHIO students (including graduate, undergraduate and medical students). Totaled visits averaged 27.5 per student. The center also hosted 15,000 facility tour visitors.

The Competitive Sports program hosted a regional officials’ development workshop that brought 72 student basketball officials from various universities across Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin and 15-20 visiting clinicians (full-time professionals and graduate assistants) to assist in officials training.

Counseling & Psychological Services and Campus Recreation coordinated a referral program that allows counselors to refer students to Campus Recreation for a wellness consultation and recreation orientation. During the 2018-2019 referral program, 14 of the 18 students referred met with Campus Recreation’s well-being staff.

OHIO Hockey recorded a 22-6-6 record, finishing sixth in the national rankings.
