Appendix A to Ohio University Army ROTC SAF Constitution
Purpose
The ROTC Hall of Fame is intended to honor Ohio University graduates who served as commissioned officers in the military and have distinguished themselves while in the military and / or civilian pursuits, and to honor military members and civilians who demonstrate extraordinary support for and service to the Ohio University Army ROTC Program.
Criteria
The criteria to determine eligibility for nomination and induction into the Hall of Fame has two categories:
- Graduates of Ohio University who earn a commission in the U.S. military prior to or following graduation. (See General Guidelines for Category #1.)
- Ohio University ROTC cadre members and any civilians who demonstrate extraordinary support for and service to the Ohio University ROTC program. These civilians need not have been employed in any of the ROTC Departments.
General Guidelines for Category 1
- Be a graduate of Ohio University, or partnership / affiliate school and
- Receive a commission from the Ohio University ROTC Program or a partnership program(s), or
- Be a female graduate of Ohio University who attended when women were restricted from taking ROTC AND went on to serve as a leader in the nation’s armed forces, or
- Be a graduate of Ohio University who received a commission through any other source (Navy, OCS, Direct Commission, Air Force, etc.) and
- Been elected or appointed to an office of prominence in the military, public or private sector, or
- Been recognized on a national or international level for outstanding achievement, contribution or service in the military or civilian or both. These outstanding contributions may, for example, be in areas of military service, professional, civic, veteran’s advocacy, political or contributions over the life of the nominee. or
- Been awarded one or more military medals for valorous combat actions (any medal with a “V” device).
Source of Nominations
Personnel in any of the following categories may submit nominations for induction into the ROTC Hall of Fame:
- Any member of the Army ROTC Society of Alumni and Friends.
- The Professor of Military Science of the Ohio University Military Science Department.
- Any present or former member of the faculty or administration of Ohio University or other institutions hosting/hosted a partnership school/Extension Center Program under the Ohio University ROTC Department.
- Any graduate of Ohio University or other institutions hosting/hosted a partnership school/Extension Center program under the Ohio University ROTC Department.
- The Alumni Association of Ohio University or other institutions hosting/hosted a partnership school/Extension Center Program under the Ohio University Army ROTC Department.
Nomination Packet
Nominations shall be submitted in an electronic Microsoft Word format, in order to facilitate transmission to committee members for early review and archiving. The following items are required:
- Submit an electronic Microsoft Word format Nomination Form, available by contacting the Ohio University Army ROTC Society of Alumni and Friends. (Required)
- Nomination packet must include a succinct, one-page biography addressing the year of graduation, academic major, major assignments and commands (include geographic locations), accomplishments, and family. The entire packet must be complete and address contributions, awards, and assignments. (Required)
- Submit a high-quality color photo of the applicant in GIF, JPG or similar format. Photo should be in uniform and should clearly show applicant’s head, shoulders and upper torso. Good examples are command photos or Department of the Army official photos. May also be in civilian equivalent. (Required)
- Verification of veteran’s status and awards (Required):
- Copy of orders of current assignment or Officer Record Brief (ORB) (if nominee is currently still in military service), or
- copy of DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) or retirement memorandum, or Honorable Discharge form and
- copy of medal certificates or general orders for awards; include any award narratives (if available).
Selection Committee:
The Selection Committee will meet during Fall Semester in order to select personnel for induction into the HoF during the Spring Semester. The committee will consist of representatives from each of the following areas, with no less than three (3) and no more than five (5) voting committee members:
- Two or more members of the Army ROTC Society of Alumni and Friends.
- Professor of Military Science (Optional).
- One ROTC Student (Optional; non-voting).
Selection Process
- Nominations shall be made using the electronic Microsoft Word Hall of Fame nomination form, see paragraph 4 above.
- Nominations received by the Army ROTC SAF prior to the Fall Semester deadline, will be considered for induction during the upcoming Spring Semester, normally in conjunction with the annual Military Ball.
- The committee may elect not to choose a nominee.
- Committee members will ensure the nominees meet all of the criteria in accordance with paragraph 2 above.
- Each nomination packet must receive 100% approval by all committee members in order to be inducted into the HoF.
- Selection Committee will maintain nominating committee meeting minutes and make reports to the SAF President. The selection committee will keep the SAF President informed of progress with nominations during the course of the year, and of the annual selection within 15 days of the selection.
- The selection committee will seek nominations throughout the year. The selection committee meeting participants may connect via teleconference or other remote call-in method.
- Personnel selected for induction will be notified no later than two months prior to the Military Ball.
