John Glazer, Senior Executive in Residence for Strategic Development at Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, spoke with WOSU public media about the impact of social enterprises in our area.

According to the WOSU interview, social enterprise is a business concerned about making social change. Two other professionals shared their experiences with social enterprises alongside Glazer, CEO of SocialVentures Allen Proctor and founder of Fairhaven Lawn Care Eddie Rapp.

When discussing the social enterprises in our region, Glazer said, “We’re directly addressing the factors that are in the way of growing the economy.”

Through his work with the Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem (SEE) Appalachia, a Voinovich School programmatic partnership, Glazer has been able to gain insight and expertise about the way social enterprises work best in the Appalachian region.

“A successful enterprise here tends to be very place based, embedded in, serving, and supporting the local community,” Glazer said.
