Seven new environmental-themed movies on deck for fall sustainability film series

Seven new environmental-themed documentaries are on the schedule for fall semester for the seventh installment of the free Sustainability Film Series at the Athena Cinema.

The free biweekly screenings and panel discussions, held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, offer participants deeper knowledge of global environmental issues and solutions.

“Our vision and goals are to offer attendees new release films that provide a deeper understanding of the current issues related to global environmental and sustainable challenges and solutions,” Loraine McCosker, environmental studies outreach coordinator with the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, said

Films in this semester’s series are:

Film screenings are paired with panel discussions – usually including at least one faculty member, one student, and one community member who are knowledgeable on the film's topic.

The film series is funded by a collaboration between the Environmental Studies program at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, Alden Library, Athena Cinema, Patton College of Education, Ohio University Office of Sustainability, and the Ohio University College of Arts and Sciences themes in Sustainability Studies, Food Studies, Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics, Village Bakery, Little Fish Brewery and others.

“Each film is unique and offers a fresh and important perspective to the societal and environmental challenges and solutions facing the global community.” McCosker said.

The Athena Cinema is located at 20 S. Court St. in Athens.
