OHIO alumna McGee Brown named to 2019 most influential women in corporate America list

Yvette McGee Brown, a 1982 Ohio University graduate and member of the Voinovich School Public Affairs Advisory Committee, has been named to Savoy Magazine’s 2019 Most Influential Women in Corporate America list.

McGee Brown is currently the partner-in-charge of diversity, inclusion and advancement for Jones Day, a global law firm.

“In this role, she leads the diversity strategy for the firm and works with her partners on recruiting, retention and advancement of diverse and women lawyers; advises and partners with clients on diversity initiatives; and supports efforts to increase diversity in the legal profession while maintaining an active litigation and appellate practice,” Savoy Magazine noted about McGee Brown’s position.

This recognition comes as yet another accomplishment for McGee Brown, who has earned the Ohio University Outstanding State Government Alumni Award, named as one of The Best Lawyers in America, has been honored by the NCAA, has won the OHIO Medal of Merit and has been inducted into the Ohio Communication Hall of Fame.

Before arriving at Jones Day, she founded the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Columbus Children’s Hospital and served as the first African-American judge for the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.

When accepting her earlier Ohio University award, McGee Brown attributed much of her success to Ohio University.

“Education is nothing if it doesn't provide access to opportunity," McGee Brown said. "If Ohio University hadn't been there, I would not have had the opportunity to be who I am today."

McGee established the Yvette McGee Brown Scholarship in the Scripps College of Communication in 2014.
