Bowman receives 2019 Sustainability Award

May 16, 2019

Jen Bowman, director of Environmental Programs for the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, was recently presented the Staff Sustainability Advocate Award, as part of the 2019 Sustainability Awards presented by Ohio University’s Office of Sustainability as part of its annual Earth Day celebration in April.

The award is given to a staff member who has served as an advocate for advancing sustainability initiatives at Ohio University or served in a support role to assist student, faculty, staff or community-led initiatives.

“She is a leader both on campus and in the community in furthering our sustainability mission. Two key efforts exemplify her impact: reforesting Appalachian streams and watershed education efforts … She has been an anchor of sustainability activities at Ohio University for years,” Nominators commented.

Political Science professor Dr. Nancy Manring also received special recognition at the event and was presented a Lifetime Sustainability Achievement Award for her contributions to sustainability at OHIO. In 2007, Manring co-founded the Kanawha Project, a multi-year professional development opportunity designed for faculty to learn how to integrate sustainability and climate change issues into their coursework.

The annual Sustainability Awards are given to individuals and organizations nominated by their peers. The awards are separated into five categories.
