Pete Souza, former chief official White House photographer for both President Barack Obama and President Ronald Reagan, will be presented with the Outstanding Federal Government Alumnus Award at Ohio University’s Seventh Annual Federal Government Alumni Luncheon at noon on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 at the National Press Club.

The event, hosted by Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis on behalf of OHIO’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, honors alumni involved in service to the federal government or engaged in civic debate of federal public policy.

As the luncheon keynoter, Souza will give an engaging pictorial presentation of the Obama and Reagan presidencies while discussing the importance of sharing images of public service.

“Ohio University is proud to recognize Pete Souza with the Outstanding Federal Government Alumnus Award,” said President Nellis. “His committed service to his craft, both as member of OHIO’s faculty and as a photographer for the administrations of President Barack Obama and President Ronald Reagan, has inspired countless photojournalists and students across the world.”

Souza is a Washington-based freelance photographer and Professor Emeritus of Visual Communication at Ohio University. He has won numerous photojournalism awards, including the prestigious Pictures of the Year annual competition, the National Press Photographers Association Best of Photojournalism and the White House News Photographers Association’s yearly contest. His book, “Obama: An Intimate Portrait,” was published in late 2017 and debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. It is one of the best-selling photography books of all time.
