DoE Good Neighbors

February 24, 2014

Through a grant provided by the DOE Office of Environmental Management Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office, Ohio University is engaging in a variety of public outreach and applied environmental science tasks at the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PORTS) facility in Piketon, Ohio as DOE executes the decontamination and decommissioning of the site. These tasks are focused on engaging the public and developing solutions to existing environmental concerns at the site and are designed to inform decision-making related to cleanup and risk reduction at the PORTS facility. OU's work benefits the public by providing information to DOE that contributes to the cleanup occurring more expeditiously, more efficaciously, and more cost-effectively (i.e. faster, better, cheaper). This will accelerate the repurposing of the facility for other industrial uses resulting in economic benefits to surrounding communities. Produced by Brice Nihiser.
