Save the Date for the SISAL Launch on Sept. 25-26

The launch of the new School of International Studies and Languages (SISAL) marks a defining moment for global education at Ohio University.

SISAL brings together four academic units—International Studies, Modern Languages, Linguistics, and the Ohio Program of Intensive English—into one dynamic new school dedicated to preparing students for global leadership, intercultural understanding, and meaningful careers at home and around the world.

It prepares students and communities to engage an interconnected world through globally focused education, cross-cultural collaboration, and multilingual proficiency

The launch is not just about marking a milestone—it’s about building something new together. As we celebrate in Athens, we’re inviting our alumni and community to shape the next generation of global education, grounded in the values and experiences that make OHIO unique. 

We’re using this moment to build philanthropic momentum as we move toward our 10-year vision: to make OHIO the premiere destination for international education in the state and Midwest, and the national model for how public universities can advance global workforce readiness and support regional economic vitality.

The OHIO School of International Studies and Languages advances global understanding through education, research, and engagement. The school prepares individuals and communities to navigate an interconnected world by fostering cultural awareness, multilingual proficiency, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Through these efforts, the school develops innovative solutions to global challenges and strengthens connections between local and global communities.

The OHIO School of International Studies and Languages serves as a transformative hub, integrating international studies and language programs into one cohesive unit. By combining OHIO's historic strengths in area studies, international education, and languages, the school operates as a convener—bridging Southeast Ohio and the world through local and global research, capacity building, and community engagement.
