Booking University Travel and a Note About Personal Travel
Ohio University business travel is governed by policy 41.121 – Reimbursement for Official Travel and Entertainment. This policy serves as the University’s accountable plan with the IRS. What is an accountable plan? An accountable plan allows the University to reimburse employees and guests of the University for reasonable and necessary travel expenses, without the reimbursement being taxed to the individual.
The University has a dedicated travel management company to book travel, Christopherson Business Travel (CBT). There are two ways you can book university related travel – both address your airfare, lodging and transportation needs:
- You can book travel yourself through the Concur system or
- You can book your travel directly with CBT through our dedicated agent, Teresa Cook.
There are no booking fees charged to the traveler or department for booking business related travel through CBT.
Just a quick note on personal travel. The University CBT contract does not include services for booking personal travel. Therefore, for purely personal travel, you cannot book through Concur or CBT. However, there are two instances where you can extend a business trip and add personal travel or if properly approved, bring your significant other on the trip. For more information about that process please visit our Travel webpage and click on the icon entitled Personal/Spousal Travel.
The University does offer personal travel perks and discounts to all employees via a program through Human Resources. For more information about that please visit the Employee Perks and Discounts page.
