Aviation Flight Waitlist

Due to the nature of instruction, capacity in the aviation flight major is limited. Admission to the major will be limited and selective for the 2025-2026 academic year. Students placed on the aviation flight waitlist must complete the Aviation Flight Waitlist Selection Form to remain on the waitlist and be considered for admission to the aviation flight major if space becomes available.

Aviation Flight Waitlist Process

Students placed on the fall 2025 aviation flight waitlist will be notified via postal mail. 

Deadlines

  • Students who applied to the University by the November 15 early action deadline and are selected for the aviation flight waitlist must complete the Aviation Flight Waitlist Selection Form by January 31, 2025, to remain on the waitlist. Students who applied to the University after the November 15 early action deadline and are selected for the aviation flight waitlist must complete the Aviation Flight Waitlist Selection Form by March 31, 2025, to remain on the waitlist. If space in the aviation flight major becomes available, only students who have completed the form to confirm their spot on the wait list will be considered for any openings in the program.
  • Students who are selected from the waitlist for admission to the aviation flight major before May 1, 2025, must confirm their intent to enroll at OHIO and submit verification of their second-class medical certificate by May 1. Students who are admitted to the aviation flight major after May 1 must complete the steps above within 48 hours of being notified of their selection for admission. While admission to the aviation flight major from the waitlist is not guaranteed, students are encouraged to prepare for these required steps in advance to ensure that they can complete them in a timely manner should they ultimately be admitted to the major.
  • Students placed on the waitlist will receive final notice of their status by August 1, 2025.  

Students not selected from the waitlist for admission to the aviation flight major will retain their admission to University College, where they will work closely with dedicated advisors who are committed to helping students navigate their academic options and prepare for their future program of study. Because of the highly selective nature of the aviation flight major, opportunities to transfer into the major at a later time are not available.

Students placed on the aviation flight waitlist should complete the Aviation Flight Waitlist Selection Form to either confirm their intention to remain on the waitlist, change their major or withdraw from OHIO.  Students must complete this form to be considered for the aviation flight major if space becomes available.

When will I know if I'm selected for the aviation flight major from the waitlist?

Students who are initially placed on the waitlist will be notified of their final admission decision by August 1, 2025. Decisions will be sent via postal mail.

What happens if I'm not selected for the aviation flight major?

If you are not selected for the aviation flight major, you will retain your admission to University College and may declare another major. University College advisors are committed to helping students navigate their academic options and prepare for their future program of study.

An option you may consider is changing your major to one of the technology degrees in the Russ College. These include Engineering Technology and Management and Aviation Management. These programs require that applicants meet the University’s general guidelines for admission, but they do not specify mathematics, chemistry or physics requirements beyond a college-prep curriculum. Engineering Technology and Management is a good choice for students who are looking for more of a hands-on curriculum and less of a theoretical curriculum. The Aviation Management degree is a good choice for students interested in working in and managing operations within the aviation industry.

Can I change my major to aviation flight later?

Because of the highly selective nature of the aviation flight major, opportunities to change your major to aviation flight at a later time are not available.

Why was I admitted to University College?

All aviation flight applicants who are admissible to the University are initially admitted undecided-intending aviation flight to University College. Students who are later admitted to the aviation flight major will move from University College to the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. Students not selected for the aviation flight major will retain admission as undecided in University College and may declare another major. University College advisors are committed to helping students navigate their academic options and prepare for their future program of study.

What should I do while I wait to hear about my status in aviation flight?

If you are selected from the waitlist for admission to the aviation flight major, you must confirm your intent to enroll at OHIO and submit verification of your second-class medical certificate within 48 hours of notification of your admission. While admission to the aviation flight major from the waitlist is not guaranteed, students are encouraged to prepare for these required steps in advance so they are prepared to do so should they ultimately be admitted to the major.

Can I change my major and remain on the aviation flight waitlist?

Your major must be undecided-intending aviation flight in University College to remain on the aviation flight waitlist. Students will receive final notice of their status by August 1, 2025, and will be able to change their major after that date.
