Aviation Flight Supplemental Application

Due to the nature of instruction, capacity in the aviation flight major is limited, and admission to the major will be limited and selective for the 2025-2026 academic year. Aviation flight applicants who are admissible to the University will be prompted to complete a supplemental application for consideration to the major.

Supplemental Application Process

Fall 2025 aviation flight applicants who are admissible to the University will be admitted undecided to University College. After applying to the University, students must submit the Aviation Flight Supplemental Application for further consideration in aviation flight. Priority consideration is given to students who apply to the aviation flight major and have a complete application on file by the November 15 early action deadline.

Deadlines

  • Students who apply to the aviation flight major and have a complete application on file by the November 15 early action deadline should submit the Aviation Flight Supplemental Application by December 9, 2024, for full consideration.
  • Students who apply to the aviation flight major and have a complete application on file by the February 1 rolling admission deadline should submit the Aviation flight Supplemental Application by February 15, 2025, for consideration.

Students not selected for the aviation flight major will remain in University College, where they will work closely with dedicated advisors who are committed to helping students navigate their academic options and prepare for their future program of study. Because of the highly selective nature of the aviation flight major, opportunities to transfer into the major at a later time are not available.

How to Submit Your Supplemental Application

The Aviation Flight Supplemental Application consists of a brief application form and a required video response (3-5 minutes in length), addressing each of the following questions:

  1. Why are you interested in being a pilot?
  2. What experiences have you had that have given you insight into what is required to be successful as a pilot?
  3. What experiences have you had that will help you be successful as a pilot, including but not limited to: working in team environments, honing decision-making skills and developing communication skills?

You will record your video directly on the supplemental application. (Do not pre-record your video response for upload.) While your video must be recorded on the submission page, you will have unlimited opportunities to re-record your video.

Why was I admitted to University College?

All aviation flight applicants who are admissible to the University are initially admitted undecided to University College. Students who are later admitted to the aviation flight major will move from University College to the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. Students not selected for the aviation flight major will remain in University College until they declare another major. University College advisors are committed to helping students navigate their academic options and prepare for their future program of study.

Can I change my major to aviation flight later?

Because of the highly selective nature of the aviation flight major, opportunities to change your major to aviation flight at a later time are not available.

What happens if I’m not selected for the aviation flight major?

Students not selected for the aviation flight major will remain in University College until they declare another major. University College advisors are committed to helping students navigate their academic options and prepare for their future program of study.

An option you may consider is changing your major to one of the technology degrees in the Russ College. These include Engineering Technology and Management and Aviation Management. These programs require that applicants meet the University’s general guidelines for admission, but they do not specify mathematics, chemistry or physics requirements beyond a college-prep curriculum. Engineering Technology and Management is a good choice for students who are looking for more of a hands-on curriculum and less of a theoretical curriculum. The Aviation Management degree is a good choice for students interested in working in and managing operations within the aviation industry.

When will I know if I’m selected for the aviation flight major from the wait list?

Students who are initially placed on the wait list will be notified of their final admission decision by August 1, 2025. Decisions will be sent via postal mail.

How can I submit my video response?

Students will record their video response directly on the supplemental application. To record the video, students will need to use a device with a webcam and microphone. Recommended browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera or Microsoft Edge. Apple mobile devices are not compatible. If prompted, be sure to allow the browser to access the camera and microphone.

Instructions:

  1. To begin the recording process, select "Ready."
  2. Students will have two minutes before a recording automatically begins. To begin recording earlier, select "Start Recording."
  3. Once recording has begun, students will have five minutes before the recording automatically stops. Students may choose to stop the recording early by selecting "Stop Recording."
  4. Once students have recorded their responses, they will have the option to view their video, and they may choose to re-record their responses if they wish. There is no limit to the number of times students can re-record their response.
I am unable to submit a video response. What should I do?

Students who are unable to submit a video response for any reason may instead submit written essay responses on the supplemental application.
