Current Use

The Walter Student Success Center is located at 15 Park Place, immediately to the East of Baker University Center, at the junction of Mulberry Street, Court Street, and Park Place, coordinates G-5 on the campus map. It is marked as #22 on the campus map.

The Walter Student Success Center houses Allen Advising, Career Services and Experiential Learning.

To reach Walter Student Success Center from Richland Avenue, turn right onto Mulberry, immediately after crossing the bridge over the old Hocking River bed. Drive past Baker University Center. Walter Student Success Center will be on your right, after passing Baker University Center.

You can also park near Baker University Center, take the escalator up to the fourth floor, and turn right as you leave the building.

History

This building was previously named Walter International Education Center and housed the Office of Global Opportunities. In 2024, it was renamed the Walter Student Success Center.

This building was the Sigma Chi fraternity house from 1949 to 2003. It was renovated and converted to its present use in 2009-11. See the Compass ribbon-cutting story; the Compass move-in story; the Compass one-year-later story.

Robert D. Walter and Margaret M. Walter

The Walter Student Success Center is named in honor of Robert D. Walter, former Chair of the Ohio University Board of Trustees, and Margaret M. Walter, both of whom are 1967 graduates of Ohio University.
