Robert H. Freeman Professor
Ashley Metcalf is a Robert H. Freeman Professor in Business. She is one-of-four COB professors with this distinction because of her excellence in research and/or teaching and for exhibiting leadership in the College, University and profession. Metcalf, as representative of the endowments' namesake, exhibits a commitment to strong work ethic, a sense of instilling an appreciation for strong business ethics and corporate social responsibility in the class room, and an appreciation for community service. The professorships were established in memory of Ohio University College of Business alumnus Robert H. Freeman, ABC '35: a successful businessman and faithful advocate who dedicated his life to helping others. As a result, he significantly improved, in diverse ways, the lives of countless people with whom he interacted, never seeking thanks or credit.
Biography
Ashley Metcalf has a background in chemical engineering with work experience in the management of high volume manufacturing at Kraft Foods and determining manufacturability of next generation products in R&D at Johnson & Johnson. Prior to her position at Ohio University, Metcalf's doctoral work included process improvement in Healthcare, specifically examining cost-reduction and value-creation process changes in hospital respiratory care services. Metcalf currently teaches courses in Operations Management and engages with hospitals nationwide on process improvement efforts. Ashley Metcalf is originally from South Carolina and currently resides in Athens, Ohio with her husband, Eric.
