Latin American Studies

The OHIO Latin American Studies Program examines the cultural, institutional and structural realities of Latin America in depth, promoting greater understanding of Latin America within the context of regional and global change.

Partnering with other university programs and initiatives, Latin American Studies offers its students a diverse academic and work environment and a range of opportunities for intellectual exchange, research collaborations, internships, study abroad, and language acquisition.

OHIO's Renowned Latin American Studies Program

Ohio University’s Latin American Studies Program is a robust interdisciplinary program that integrates with initiatives and colleges across the university. It has strong institutional relations with — and faculty interest in — Ecuador and Brazil, and excellent library holdings for South America.

The program is known for its strength in Central America where faculty interests and numerous publications are enriched by an outstanding library collection.

Latin American Studies is proud to partner with the OHIO International Tropical Disease Institute, which seeks to improve the health status of communities through sustainable and comprehensive research, service and educational initiatives related to infectious and tropical diseases.

    This annual lecture is sponsored by History Department in the College of Arts & Sciences and supported through the generosity of Ohio University alumna Helen Coast Hayes (class of 1926). 

    Previous lecturers include Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Doris Kearns Goodwin and Laurel Thatcher Ulrich and noted presidential historian Michael Beschloss.
